Sherman's Way

Click here for more complete info on festival website:

The producer and star of the film, Michael Shulman (Party of Five, Little Man Tate) and the film’s director, Craig Saavedra, will be in Sedona to host the premiere and conduct Q&A discussions following both screenings. “Sherman’s Way” marks Saavedra’s return to Sedona after his directorial debut with “Rhapsody in Bloom”, which won the Best Feature Film award at the 1999 Sedona International Film Festival.

The film has taken top honors as Best Picture at the Newport Film Festival, Cinequest San Jose Film Festival and Jackson Hole Film Festival, and it has just begun its trek to festivals around the world. The premiere in Sedona marks one of its early stops.

In “Sherman’s Way,” two strangers are forced into a road trip of convenience only to veer off the path into a quirky exploration of friendship, fatherhood and the annoying task of finding one’s place in the world — a world in which one wrong turn can change your destination. MORE

The title sponsor for the event is Southwest Asphalt Paving, a division of Fisher Industries. The lodging host is Amara Resort & Spa and L’Auberge de Sedona. The series is also made possible by a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Sedona.

Drama/Biography

After Princess Diana's shocking death, Queen Elizabeth II and Tony Blair engage in intimate talks as Britain demands the princess be memorialized in a manner beyond standard protocol. This film goes behind the scenes as the queen and prime minister try to manage Diana's death on a personal level while also dealing with a public calling for royal treatment for their beloved princess.

What begins as a humorous critique of the stuffy royal family becomes an unexpectedly sympathetic portrait of a woman who carries the weight of a nation on her shoulders.

Comments by Forrest (who runs the film series):

The Queen is not difficult, [but] it is sufficiently and, yes, marvelously artistic...

A royal winner

The Queen, though irreverent at times, offers us a sense of the weight of that crown, and what it's like to bear a responsibility not just to tradition but to breaking with tradition when circumstances demand it

First time? Welcome to SedonaFILMLovers, a free guide to independent films in Sedona, Flagstaff, and Prescott.  If you believe you were accidentally sent this email, please reply and ask to be removed. We only list films that are defined as independent, foreign, or art films.  Sometimes the categories are blurred, but we do our best.  We can suggest to our local theaters which films we would like to have.  Procuring films, however, can be complex.  Theaters bid for movies, yet ultimately distributors have the final say as to where their limited prints are screened.  The longer a film has been showing, the easier it is to get it, but then, it may just be available at the video store, too.

This email service was born out of the need to educate our community about independent film in the area.  Without word of mouth or auxillary marketing, films without big advertising budgets don’t attract big audiences.  In cities of 100,000 or more, a few percent can still fill theaters.   Phoenix only has one theater dedicated to "indie" film.  NYC only has a few.  In rural towns, it is important that all of us turn out when a film comes to town.  We can help you know when and where that is.  The theaters win, and we win.  Please add your interested friends to this list. Thank you!
