"Kiss the Bride” August 12th
“We thought we would end the series with a light, fun, romantic comedy that is sure to entertain and delight our audiences,” said Patrick Schweiss, film festival director. “It has been a hit at festivals around the country and in its over-seas release.”
“Kiss the Bride” follows the impending nuptials of happy, heterosexual couple Ryan (James O’Shea) and Alex (Tori Spelling). Their happiness is disrupted by the arrival of Ryan’s old high school friend, Matt (Philipp Karner), with whom Ryan had a fling in his teenage years.
“Kiss the Bride” was directed by C. Jay Cox from a Ty Lieberman script. Cox is perhaps best known for writing the Reese Witherspoon sensation “Sweet Home Alabama”, which became Witherspoon’s highest grossing movie and holds the record for the biggest September opening ever. He has subsequently written projects for Bette Midler and Antonio Banderas, as well as The Walt Disney Co., Columbia Pictures and New Line Cinema. MORE

“The Other Boleyn Girl”
Historical Drama/Romance/Period Piece
An engrossing and sensual tale of two sisters, which tells a tale of intrigue, romance, and betrayal. As the girls battle for the love of a king – one driven by ambition, the other by true affection – England is torn apart. Ultimately, they find strength and loyalty in each other and their bond as sisters.
Starring: Natalie Portman, Eric Bana, Kristin Scot Thomas, Juno Temple,
Ana Torrent, Scarlett Johansson, Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne,
Based on the best selling novel by Philippa Gregory
Comments by Forrest who runs the series:
A highly absorbing rendition of an endlessly fascinating tale.
Fascinating in its depiction of a troubled relationship between sisters that is anything but black and white. This emotionally ripe angle to a tragic story that could have been told any number of ways is where the film gets its potency.
A cautionary tale of what unchecked ambition and lust can do to a person, a family, a nation.
A mix of history, lurid melodrama, sex, politics, and two top-notch actresses, making for a most entertaining brew

Acting Classes ( or actually, how not to act... but to seem perfectly normal as someone else.)
We have two inspiring teachers teaching at Yavapai College on the Sedona Campus. Robert Bays and Sagan Lewis.
I just took a class from Robert Bays at Canyon Moon Theater and loved it. So entertaining just being in the class, too. Bob is an excellent teacher of acting for the theater. He was very successful as an actor in NYC, before he went on to be an inspiring speaker along side Tony Robbins for many years. He is a treasure and I highly recommend taking his theater acting class, or his Shakespeare Class!!!!Sagan Lewis teaches the very popular Acting for Film class. She was a television and stage star before moving to Sedona and teaching at ZGI. Call Yavapai 928-649-4266 for more information and to register.
Canyon Moon Theater is offering Acting for all Levels starting in September. It's very special to work in the theater and on the stage. Robert Bays is the teacher.

Romantic comedy rounds out Sedona film festival’s six-week “Best of Fest” series
The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present the Arizona premiere of the romantic comedy feature “Kiss the Bride” as the finale of its six-week “Best of Fest” film series. There will be two screenings of the film at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. on Aug. 12 at Harkins Sedona Six Theatres.
When Matt receives an invitation to Ryan's wedding he's surprised – especially by the fact that Ryan is marrying a woman. Matt interrupts his ideal life in San Francisco to return to his hometown. He plans to rescue his former love from whatever "she-devil" has trapped him into this huge mistake.
Ryan's perky fiancé, Alex, on the other hand, takes quite the liking to Matt. As Matt tries to rekindle the old flame, Ryan is intent on putting out any sparks. Ryan dismisses their old romance as just a high school tryst, but Matt realizes Ryan may still be the love of his life. All the while, Matt must deal with "his new best friend" Alex, their two families and a hometown he thought he had left entirely in the past.
As the wedding day fast approaches, old feelings resurface and secrets are revealed. Each of them must balance the past with the present, and make a choice that will determine the rest of their lives. “Kiss the Bride” is a comedic, fascinating exploration of the complex social and sexual landscape of today’s society.
“Ty Lieberman’s script struck me as having the makings of a really fun romantic comedy. I immediately loved the premise of the wedding movie with a twist,” said Cox. “The situation in which these characters find themselves was compelling – on the verge of marriage, our groom must choose between his fiancée and his first love.”
“I felt there was a delightful paradox in the fact that his first love was a man. It is both crucial to the story and yet incidental; this could happen to anyone. Thematically, I liked how the screenplay took sexual identity out for a spin,” added Cox.
“Think ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ with a sexual twist and you get the picture,” said Schweiss. “The film is a lot of fun and a lot of laughs, and our audience is on the guest list of a very funny wedding.”
The title sponsor for the event is Bliss Extraordinary Floral, owned by Amy Mills, and Sedona Sweet Arts/Sedona Wedding Cakes, owned by Donna Joy Varney. Mills and Varney have a surprise “wedding reception” in store for the audience as they leave the theater.
The series is also made possible by a grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts and National Endowment for the Arts and the City of Sedona.

Welcome to
SedonaFILMLovers, a free
guide to independent films in Sedona, Flagstaff, and
Prescott. If you believe you were accidentally sent
this email, please reply and ask to be removed.
We only list films
that are defined as independent, foreign, or art
films. Sometimes the categories are blurred, but we
do our best. We can suggest to our local theaters
which films we would like to have. Procuring films,
however, can be complex. Theaters bid for movies,
yet ultimately distributors have the final say as to
where their limited prints are screened. The longer
a film has been showing, the easier it is to get it,
but then, it may just be available at the video
store, too.
This email service was
born out of the need to educate our community about
independent film in the area. Without word of mouth
or auxillary marketing, films without big
advertising budgets don’t attract big audiences. In
cities of 100,000 or more, a few percent can still
fill theaters. Phoenix only has one theater
dedicated to "indie" film. NYC only has a few. In
rural towns, it is important that all of us turn out
when a film comes to town. We can help you know
when and where that is. The theaters win, and we
win. Please add your interested friends to this
list. Thank you!
